Say Yes-DO NOT USE

Jesus wants to lead us to greater things, but first we must say “yes.”

  • 00:00:06
    - Hey, welcome back to our second week of the 10X Push.
  • 00:00:09
My name is Andy and thank you for joining us
  • 00:00:11
for church online today wherever you are.
  • 00:00:13
    Now, Crossroads is one church
  • 00:00:15
and we meet in buildings like this,
  • 00:00:16
but we also meet in homes, online,
  • 00:00:18
digitally and in person all over the globe
  • 00:00:20
and made up of all sorts of people,
  • 00:00:22
    including our next generation,
  • 00:00:23
which is why my buddy Joel is here.
  • 00:00:25
    - Hey, what's up? I'm Joel, I lead our 0-18 team.
  • 00:00:28
As we talk about the church being pushed,
  • 00:00:31
I think it's critical to talk about the church,
  • 00:00:33
like the entirety of the church,
  • 00:00:35
    which includes kids and students.
  • 00:00:36
And so I'll say it this way.
  • 00:00:37
I think everyone needs a spiritual revival,
  • 00:00:39
    from diapers to diapers,
  • 00:00:42
    - Diapers -- Depends.
  • 00:00:43
    - Diapers, diapers. Yeah, they'll get it.
  • 00:00:45
They'll get it later. And so we're doing that.
  • 00:00:47
Every, every different ministry, kids ministry, student ministry,
  • 00:00:50
all the way through adults are experiencing this push.
  • 00:00:52
And what we want to see,
  • 00:00:54
we don't want to just go to the moon.
  • 00:00:55
We want to bring the skies down.
  • 00:00:57
We want to see heaven meet Earth.
  • 00:00:59
And so we really, truly believe that's
  • 00:01:00
what's going to take for an awakening or a revival.
  • 00:01:02
    - Yeah, and we're seeing that, like,
  • 00:01:04
a revival is not a word we use a lot around here.
  • 00:01:06
But it's just this thing where God comes
  • 00:01:08
and He brings new life to us, and we're experiencing that.
  • 00:01:10
Just this past weekend, we had
  • 00:01:12
    an old school tent revival
  • 00:01:13
at our land called Base Camp,
  • 00:01:15
and over 8500 people came together,
  • 00:01:17
three mile long traffic on the road.
  • 00:01:20
It was like all packed, crazy,
  • 00:01:22
tons of students there. It was amazing.
  • 00:01:24
    Nonstop worship, amazing teaching.
  • 00:01:26
And I want to give you guys a glimpse
  • 00:01:28
    of what happened right now.
  • 00:01:33
    - You're where you are right now
  • 00:01:35
    because of where you've been.
  • 00:01:37
And so the fact that we opted in to revival
  • 00:01:39
    means, like, something is dead,
  • 00:01:41
    or we need something refreshed,
  • 00:01:43
and that means something new has to come in
  • 00:01:46
and we've got to open ourselves up.
  • 00:01:54
The history of the Bible is very clear:
  • 00:01:57
    God goes where He's wanted.
  • 00:02:12
He gives power to the tired,
  • 00:02:15
and He revives the exhausted. [cheers]
  • 00:02:21
    - Andy, I had an unreal time at Revival,
  • 00:02:23
mostly because I wasn't one of
  • 00:02:25
those cars stuck really far back there.
  • 00:02:27
I got there early for setup,
  • 00:02:28
which is why you should volunteer at these things.
  • 00:02:30
    But it was unreal.
  • 00:02:31
And honestly, one of my favorite parts
  • 00:02:33
was Saturday at the 1 p.m. session.
  • 00:02:34
I'm not kidding you, no rain.
  • 00:02:36
Someone out there who's smarter than me
  • 00:02:38
    can explain how this happened.
  • 00:02:39
A rainbow just made itself known above the tent
  • 00:02:43
and it felt like I was there.
  • 00:02:45
    - Yeah. - Like, it just, it was kind of
  • 00:02:46
just a glimpse into heaven meeting Earth.
  • 00:02:48
    It was fantastic. Yeah.
  • 00:02:49
    - It was beautiful. - Do you have a favorite part?
  • 00:02:51
    - You know, I missed the rainbow cloud,
  • 00:02:53
which sounds amazing, but my favorite part
  • 00:02:55
was actually having my entire family there.
  • 00:02:57
Like, I'd been to the land for Man Camp.
  • 00:03:00
My wife's gone to Woman Camp,
  • 00:03:01
but all of us being there together
  • 00:03:02
at the same time was just fantastic.
  • 00:03:05
And it reminds me that, like, revival
  • 00:03:07
is something that happens for our whole church,
  • 00:03:09
for our whole nation, for us individually,
  • 00:03:12
and for our families, like, no matter what our age is.
  • 00:03:14
    - Yeah, I'm glad you said that, because
  • 00:03:15
way more is caught than taught.
  • 00:03:17
And so if our church is going to be revived,
  • 00:03:19
    this has to be real.
  • 00:03:20
It has to be people living it out.
  • 00:03:21
So if you want to get engaged,
  • 00:03:23
there's a couple ways to do it.
  • 00:03:24
One, you're doing it right now.
  • 00:03:25
    Watch the weekend message.
  • 00:03:27
So if you're here, unless you're here on accident,
  • 00:03:29
    you're crushing it. Congrats.
  • 00:03:31
And two, is to get a guidebook.
  • 00:03:33
Andy's got his in his hand.
  • 00:03:34
This is my real one because my name is on it,
  • 00:03:36
    so you know it.
  • 00:03:37
If you can't get to a physical site to get this,
  • 00:03:40
if you're chilling somewhere else to grab it,
  • 00:03:42
then go ahead and go to Crossroads.net/10X
  • 00:03:44
and we got a digital one for you.
  • 00:03:46
    - Yeah. Doing the work on the guide,
  • 00:03:47
it's like a custom action plan for you.
  • 00:03:49
It might be the most helpful way for you
  • 00:03:51
to be personally grown and stretched
  • 00:03:53
    throughout the Journey.
  • 00:03:54
It's just like 30 minutes or so each week,
  • 00:03:56
and this week there's even a fun little --
  • 00:03:58
It's actually a really helpful personal assessment
  • 00:04:01
that will help you understand how you grow best,
  • 00:04:03
and even what might be keeping you
  • 00:04:06
    from growing right now.
  • 00:04:07
    - Yeah, and another way to do it is to get in a group.
  • 00:04:09
    My group met last week
  • 00:04:11
and so we started ours already.
  • 00:04:12
But you were just telling me
  • 00:04:13
yours doesn't start till this week, right?
  • 00:04:15
    - That's right. My group starts this week.
  • 00:04:17
You can join. It's not too late.
  • 00:04:18
You can find all the groups at Crossroads.net/10x.
  • 00:04:21
There's all kinds of great stuff there.
  • 00:04:23
Get in a group. Do the guide.
  • 00:04:25
Join in because God wants to push you to a new place.
  • 00:04:28
    - Hey, revival has started. It's begun.
  • 00:04:31
And we're starting to see something big happen.
  • 00:04:33
We hope you want to be a part of it.
  • 00:04:35
    - That's right. Let's go with week two of The Push right now.
  • 00:04:38
    - 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0. [engine boosters]
  • 00:04:50
    Liftoff, we have a liftoff.
  • 00:05:04
Houston, you are a go for staging.
  • 00:05:10
    [music]
  • 00:10:17
    - Have you given your life to one thing,
  • 00:10:19
giving your whole life to one thing is not normal.
  • 00:10:24
It's not normal. But who wants to be normal?
  • 00:10:26
    Am I right?
  • 00:10:28
I don't think you came in tonight
  • 00:10:29
or came in with us online for normal.
  • 00:10:32
I think you came wanting something more.
  • 00:10:34
And that's why I'm excited that you're here.
  • 00:10:36
When I've given my whole life to Jesus
  • 00:10:38
and said yes to all that He has for me,
  • 00:10:40
    my whole life changed.
  • 00:10:41
It's not normal, but it's amazing.
  • 00:10:44
    It's amazing.
  • 00:10:45
That's why I'm excited that you're here tonight.
  • 00:10:47
If you're brand new. My name is Justin.
  • 00:10:50
And you walked into this thing called the 10X Push.
  • 00:10:53
What that is, is all of us here at this church
  • 00:10:56
saying, "God, I want more of You in my heart.
  • 00:10:58
I want You to enlarge what You're
  • 00:11:01
doing in my heart and in this world."
  • 00:11:03
And so you walked into something crazy
  • 00:11:06
    and super exciting.
  • 00:11:07
It's not normal, but it's amazing.
  • 00:11:09
So everything from here on out,
  • 00:11:11
the rest of the time, every song you hear,
  • 00:11:13
every story you hear is all geared towards
  • 00:11:15
getting you to understand this God more
  • 00:11:18
and what He wants to do in your heart.
  • 00:11:20
    So glad you're here tonight.
  • 00:11:22
Why don't you stand up with us?
  • 00:11:23
We're going to sing some songs to Him
  • 00:11:25
and about Him. So glad you're here.
  • 00:11:32
    - Put your hands together like this
  • 00:11:34
as we sing praises to the Lord,
  • 00:11:37
the One who's worthy. Come on.
  • 00:15:53
    - Come on. Hands up all over the room.
  • 00:15:56
I just need you to think right now
  • 00:15:59
on all the things He's done,
  • 00:16:01
all the ways He's shown up for you,
  • 00:16:03
all the ways He's stepped in your life
  • 00:16:05
and shown you that He's faithful,
  • 00:16:07
that He's good, that He's merciful,
  • 00:16:09
    that He's got your back.
  • 00:16:11
I need you to know. I need you to remember right now.
  • 00:17:49
    - We give Him all the praise
  • 00:17:50
because of how He's rescued us.
  • 00:29:56
    - God, so many of us in here come with gratitude.
  • 00:30:01
We come with hearts that struggle to find the words
  • 00:30:04
that can match the gift that You have given us,
  • 00:30:10
    the redemption that we've experienced.
  • 00:30:13
And so many of us come into this room
  • 00:30:16
with heavy hearts, hearts in needing a touch,
  • 00:30:20
needing an encounter with the living God.
  • 00:30:26
So would you see us showing up here,
  • 00:30:29
showing up online as us saying yes to You.
  • 00:30:32
Yes, we want to encounter You.
  • 00:30:35
Would You come meet us right where we are?
  • 00:30:39
Would You meet us? Amen. Amen.
  • 00:30:43
    Come on y'all.
  • 00:30:46
It's so good, so good. Mhm.
  • 00:30:53
Well, I want you to say hi to somebody.
  • 00:30:56
If you're online, say hi to somebody
  • 00:30:58
even if you don't know them and have a seat.
  • 00:31:41
    [music]
  • 00:34:53
    - Hey! How big -- How big is your God?
  • 00:34:57
    How big is your God?
  • 00:34:58
What do you think that can happen
  • 00:35:00
as people band together and are empowered
  • 00:35:04
    by the Spirit of God?
  • 00:35:06
If you're first time today, man,
  • 00:35:08
    welcome to Crossroads.
  • 00:35:09
We have -- You've stepped into a doozy.
  • 00:35:11
We're in the midst of the 6 most important weeks
  • 00:35:14
in our church's 28 year history.
  • 00:35:17
I'm in the six most important weeks
  • 00:35:19
    of my personal life.
  • 00:35:21
We are looking and working towards
  • 00:35:25
bringing an awakening, something to our land
  • 00:35:29
that rattles our cages, gets us off our phones,
  • 00:35:33
gets us out of our doldrums,
  • 00:35:35
    shakes us out of depression,
  • 00:35:37
helps us see the way of hope
  • 00:35:38
instead of the way of anxiety,
  • 00:35:40
    and connects people to
  • 00:35:41
a life giving relationship with God
  • 00:35:43
and has all the trickle down effect that comes with it.
  • 00:35:46
I'm going to talk about that right now.
  • 00:35:48
Let's pray before I go any further. All right.
  • 00:35:50
God, You are really -- You are big. You're very big.
  • 00:35:55
    And You are empowering
  • 00:35:58
and You're also patient and You're kind.
  • 00:36:01
Be patient with people like us that sometimes
  • 00:36:04
are just two heads down and too thick.
  • 00:36:07
Be helpful to me as I try to communicate
  • 00:36:10
to Your people and be helpful.
  • 00:36:11
And may all of us, God, have
  • 00:36:13
our hearts inclined more towards You.
  • 00:36:15
And I pray these things according to
  • 00:36:17
the character and identity of Jesus. Amen.
  • 00:36:23
Well, we're in week two of our Push.
  • 00:36:27
By Push, the reason it's called a Push
  • 00:36:30
is because we're going to be pushing on you,
  • 00:36:33
and I'm going to push on you today.
  • 00:36:34
Are you ready to get pushed?
  • 00:36:35
I'm going to push you a little bit.
  • 00:36:37
    Just like a little nudge.
  • 00:36:38
I'm just going to give you a little push.
  • 00:36:40
Just going to give you a push.
  • 00:36:41
I believe you came to Crossroads today because
  • 00:36:44
you want something more from where you could be,
  • 00:36:47
    other than here.
  • 00:36:48
When you came in today or when you left yesterday,
  • 00:36:51
you got one of these guides.
  • 00:36:52
It's one of the things we're doing to give us
  • 00:36:54
a fully orbed, multi-sensory, tactile Journey
  • 00:36:58
over the next six weeks or actually from now on,
  • 00:37:00
    over the next five weeks.
  • 00:37:03
I want to push you into new territory.
  • 00:37:05
We want to push each other
  • 00:37:06
to new levels of spiritual growth.
  • 00:37:08
We want to push us closer to the heart of God.
  • 00:37:11
We want to push our community closer to
  • 00:37:13
the potential that it has to be a blessing
  • 00:37:16
to the world and actually bring God's Kingdom,
  • 00:37:19
    God's preferred way of living,
  • 00:37:21
not just in heaven, but bring it into earth.
  • 00:37:25
    Jesus talks about this Kingdom
  • 00:37:27
again and again and again and again,
  • 00:37:29
and He does all He can to talk to His people,
  • 00:37:32
to help them understand God's plan for our life
  • 00:37:35
and how we should and can be living differently.
  • 00:37:37
To do this, He would use stories
  • 00:37:39
    and He would use parables.
  • 00:37:40
He didn't have screens and hazers and that stuff.
  • 00:37:42
He used what He could in the countryside,
  • 00:37:44
which was stories, also known as parables,
  • 00:37:47
stories He made up, but they're meant to have a point.
  • 00:37:50
I'm going to read one for you today.
  • 00:37:52
It's one that's repeated multiple times in the Bible,
  • 00:37:55
    which means the biblical authors
  • 00:37:57
and consolidators saw it as really important.
  • 00:37:59
I'm going to read the version of
  • 00:38:01
the book of Matthew 13:3, and here we go.
  • 00:38:56
She who has ears to hear, let her hear.
  • 00:39:00
Jesus is sort of a master of tension and drama.
  • 00:39:03
He tells these stories, and most of the time
  • 00:39:07
    He doesn't explain them.
  • 00:39:08
Like, one of the classic ones of the Prodigal Son
  • 00:39:12
we've told here a number of times.
  • 00:39:14
Two sons, one son is rebellious,
  • 00:39:16
another one is an older son is not rebellious.
  • 00:39:18
And the father runs to the rebellious son,
  • 00:39:20
I'm not gonna tell you the whole thing.
  • 00:39:21
But Jesus doesn't explain it to us.
  • 00:39:23
    The meaning is pretty similar,
  • 00:39:24
but that's part of why every time you read it,
  • 00:39:26
you can see something different because
  • 00:39:28
He allows our imagination to go with it.
  • 00:39:30
This is one of the very few parables
  • 00:39:32
where Jesus actually tells us the meaning.
  • 00:39:35
He tells us what the point is.
  • 00:39:39
There are four types of people according to Jesus,
  • 00:39:43
four types of people in this world:
  • 00:39:46
those who can count and those who can't.
  • 00:39:50
Four types of people in this world.
  • 00:39:51
He refers to them, He refers to us rather
  • 00:39:55
    as the four soils.
  • 00:39:56
And there's a sower who represents God,
  • 00:40:01
and God has seed, and the seed represents
  • 00:40:04
the Word of God, the truth of God.
  • 00:40:07
    And God is going around.
  • 00:40:08
And I know some of you ladies are going to hate it,
  • 00:40:11
but get over it. God goes around.
  • 00:40:13
God goes -- You want that?
  • 00:40:14
You want that right there, James? Bam. Right for you.
  • 00:40:16
God goes around and He just puts out His truth.
  • 00:40:20
Hey, I'm the Way, the Truth and the Life.
  • 00:40:22
Hey I am a God of compassion.
  • 00:40:25
I am a God of forgiveness.
  • 00:40:28
This is the way that life works.
  • 00:40:30
He goes out sowing his seed all over the place
  • 00:40:33
and how it lands, the kind of person that lands on
  • 00:40:37
    will have four different reactions.
  • 00:40:39
And our reaction is based on
  • 00:40:43
    the heart that we have,
  • 00:40:44
the heart that has been cultivated.
  • 00:40:46
You can throw out truth all you want,
  • 00:40:48
but if it doesn't land on a heart
  • 00:40:50
that wants to receive it and is ready to receive it,
  • 00:40:52
then it doesn't mean anything at all.
  • 00:40:54
Let's hear from Jesus who these soils are,
  • 00:41:00
    what they represent.
  • 00:41:01
I have them represented over here right now.
  • 00:41:03
Let's just read what He says.
  • 00:41:05
Let's have Him dummy proof it.
  • 00:41:06
    Here's what He says here.
  • 00:41:09
Here is the parable of the sower.
  • 00:41:10
When anyone hears the Word of the Kingdom
  • 00:41:13
    and does not understand it,
  • 00:41:15
the evil one comes down and snatches away
  • 00:41:19
what has been sown in his heart.
  • 00:41:21
This is what is sown on the path.
  • 00:41:25
So here we have the path, and it's really hard.
  • 00:41:29
It's batted down, because people are walking on it
  • 00:41:32
all the time, it's it's smushed down.
  • 00:41:34
It's, you know, all the traffic, it's hard.
  • 00:41:38
And the seed falls on there,
  • 00:41:40
    but it can't go anywhere.
  • 00:41:43
    Nothing takes place.
  • 00:41:44
    Why does nothing takes place?
  • 00:41:47
It's because there is an evil one
  • 00:41:49
    who's very hungry.
  • 00:41:51
The evil one is known as Satan, the devil,
  • 00:41:54
    the adversary, the deceiver.
  • 00:41:55
All different kinds of names for him
  • 00:41:57
    that are in the Bible.
  • 00:41:58
And what he does is when we hear something
  • 00:42:00
that's truth, hear something that's God,
  • 00:42:03
before it sinks into our heart and transforms us.
  • 00:42:06
He comes down and takes it away.
  • 00:42:08
    He snatches it away
  • 00:42:09
before it gets down inside of our heart.
  • 00:42:12
This is sort of what cynicism does.
  • 00:42:16
    Cynicism is a condition where
  • 00:42:19
it doesn't matter what hits you, you're like,
  • 00:42:21
    "Oh, I don't know if that's true.
  • 00:42:23
    Really? I don't know."
  • 00:42:27
I mean, cynics, cynics are really, really bothered
  • 00:42:29
by this, this Push right now because
  • 00:42:33
cynics think that the moon shot was a hoax.
  • 00:42:37
Cynics are always looking for a conspiracy.
  • 00:42:40
    Cynics are always feeling like
  • 00:42:42
    someone isn't being truthful.
  • 00:42:44
Someone isn't saying what needs to be said.
  • 00:42:46
    It's really, really weird.
  • 00:42:48
    I know people.
  • 00:42:49
I know people who have been big UFO people
  • 00:42:52
for a long, long, long, long time.
  • 00:42:54
Until when? You know, until when?
  • 00:42:55
Until the government came out about a year
  • 00:42:57
or so ago and said, "Yeah, there's some stuff
  • 00:42:59
    we're discovering we don't understand.
  • 00:43:00
    Probably there's UFOs."
  • 00:43:02
And then these same people went, "Oh,
  • 00:43:04
there's no UFOs. Can't be UFOs."
  • 00:43:06
No, they always got to be contrarians.
  • 00:43:08
If no one believes it, I believe it.
  • 00:43:10
If someone believes it, if the authority says it,
  • 00:43:12
Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, I don't believe it.
  • 00:43:14
This is this is the way of cynicism.
  • 00:43:16
It's the way of our world.
  • 00:43:19
Always believe there's a hidden agenda.
  • 00:43:21
Always believe you're not being told the truth.
  • 00:43:23
    Always believe something is odd
  • 00:43:25
    and therefore it's virtually impossible
  • 00:43:28
to have a communal experience in a church
  • 00:43:30
because you have cynics who always believe
  • 00:43:32
there's some agenda that the church has
  • 00:43:34
    that they're not telling you,
  • 00:43:36
and there's always some super secret thing
  • 00:43:37
    that you don't know.
  • 00:43:40
Friends, it's not true. It's just not true.
  • 00:43:43
It is exhausting to live in this world of cynicism.
  • 00:43:47
In fact, the cynicism is what's in our country.
  • 00:43:50
People are cynical about anything on the right
  • 00:43:52
    anything on the left says.
  • 00:43:53
    People are cynical about science,
  • 00:43:55
or maybe that person isn't doing true science.
  • 00:43:57
Cynical about the news, whatever it is.
  • 00:43:59
And then we hear the Word of God,
  • 00:44:01
    and we're immediately cynical again.
  • 00:44:03
Well, I don't know. Is that really Jesus's words?
  • 00:44:06
I don't care that Christ followers
  • 00:44:08
have believed it for 2000 years,
  • 00:44:10
and we have older documents, original --
  • 00:44:11
Not original documents, but few decades after His death
  • 00:44:14
and than any other ancient antiquity.
  • 00:44:16
    I don't, I don't care. I don't care that
  • 00:44:17
it's proven a book that has transformed lives
  • 00:44:20
and skeptics have come to embrace.
  • 00:44:22
    I don't know. I, I don't even know.
  • 00:44:23
How do we know it's true? I don't know."
  • 00:44:25
And it's just, friends, it gets exhausting
  • 00:44:27
and it doesn't get us anywhere if we don't --
  • 00:44:29
If we don't trust something at some time,
  • 00:44:34
we have nothing to stand on
  • 00:44:36
and we'll never go forward in our life,
  • 00:44:38
    let alone with our faith.
  • 00:44:40
Now, as I talk about this, I'm talking a bit about myself.
  • 00:44:43
You're going to have when you go through this,
  • 00:44:45
I hope you've been going through it.
  • 00:44:47
How many have been going through our guide
  • 00:44:48
    so far this last week?
  • 00:44:50
    It's pretty awesome, huh?
  • 00:44:51
A little show of hands, a little applause.
  • 00:44:53
    Come on. It's really good.
  • 00:44:55
What you're going to do this week,
  • 00:44:56
in addition to the really good discussion
  • 00:44:58
    things that are in there
  • 00:44:59
    and the self reflection things
  • 00:45:01
is there's a test for you.
  • 00:45:03
There's a test for you to understand
  • 00:45:06
which of these soils do you trend to.
  • 00:45:09
And the good soil, which is in the end,
  • 00:45:11
I'm just going to tell you now,
  • 00:45:12
you're not going to be able to test that one.
  • 00:45:14
Sorry. Everyone thinks they're good soil.
  • 00:45:16
    It's a rigged test. You're not going to --
  • 00:45:19
All of us have one of these three things,
  • 00:45:22
even if we're a good soil that I'll get to in a minute.
  • 00:45:24
All of us have one of these three things
  • 00:45:26
that's our Achilles heel, that speaks to us,
  • 00:45:29
    that nags at us.
  • 00:45:31
And my Achilles heel of these three,
  • 00:45:35
    I think I think I have a screenshot
  • 00:45:36
    of my results is cynicism.
  • 00:45:38
    It is this. It's cynicism.
  • 00:45:40
You know, I just I have a hard time sometimes
  • 00:45:43
believing that everything that I'm being told
  • 00:45:47
    is what's right.
  • 00:45:48
I have a hard time believing that people are sincere.
  • 00:45:52
I understand it, and maybe that's why
  • 00:45:54
    you reap what you sow
  • 00:45:56
and I get punished with my own issues.
  • 00:45:59
This last week, I was at the Revival.
  • 00:46:02
Any Revival folks in here at any of our sites?
  • 00:46:05
Yeah, a bunch of you. Come on. Jeez.
  • 00:46:07
So, I went out and I camped out
  • 00:46:09
the night before the Revival on Friday,
  • 00:46:10
and I camped out on Friday.
  • 00:46:11
I had some friends with me because
  • 00:46:13
we were preparing things, getting stuff ready, all that.
  • 00:46:15
And as we're sitting around the campfire
  • 00:46:16
    having some beers, we're talking
  • 00:46:18
and my friend said, they said, "You know,
  • 00:46:21
people find out that I'm your friend,
  • 00:46:23
and I always get the same question.
  • 00:46:25
They all say this." "Like, what's the question?"
  • 00:46:27
They said, people always go, "What's BT really like?
  • 00:46:33
    What's he really like?"
  • 00:46:36
And they go, do you ever, that's what they said.
  • 00:46:38
They say, "You ever you ever see him on stage?"
  • 00:46:40
They go, "Yeah." "He's exactly like that.
  • 00:46:43
    Exactly, exactly like that."
  • 00:46:46
And that came up because I had --
  • 00:46:48
I do this multivitamin drink called AG1.
  • 00:46:51
And I was, you know, I was drinking.
  • 00:46:52
I have it even when I'm even I'm away I'm doing it.
  • 00:46:55
I it's on, they sponsor the podcast that I do.
  • 00:46:57
    And people are going like,
  • 00:47:00
    "He doesn't actually drink AG1."
  • 00:47:01
And they see me on a camping trip
  • 00:47:03
in the middle of nowhere pulling out my thing,
  • 00:47:04
it's what reminded them like, "No, no, no.
  • 00:47:06
If he says he does it, he actually does it."
  • 00:47:09
Maybe it's because we see very few people
  • 00:47:11
have their words match their life.
  • 00:47:15
Maybe if that's what our problem.
  • 00:47:16
Maybe our problem is we have shame
  • 00:47:19
because my words don't match my life,
  • 00:47:21
so certainly nobody else's words can match their life.
  • 00:47:26
Whatever the reason is, it's still the same root cause,
  • 00:47:29
there's an evil one who wants
  • 00:47:31
to pluck away the truth of God.
  • 00:47:38
We want to see the truth of God get into
  • 00:47:41
ten times as many lives as is getting into
  • 00:47:44
right now through our church, ten times as many.
  • 00:47:46
That's what we want to see.
  • 00:47:47
We feel led there by God.
  • 00:47:50
And to do that, we've seen that
  • 00:47:52
there's four territories, if you will,
  • 00:47:54
four areas that we have a disproportionate impact on,
  • 00:47:58
four of them, and they're not the ones you might think.
  • 00:48:01
One of these territories is not preaching.
  • 00:48:04
I'm a capable preacher. Kyle is as well.
  • 00:48:06
Others are, Chuck. Others are as well.
  • 00:48:08
But like, no one's inviting us to conferences to speak.
  • 00:48:11
I love our music. It's great music.
  • 00:48:13
    It's awesome. It's awesome.
  • 00:48:14
    And we can't get a -- we can't buy a hit
  • 00:48:17
    on Spotify or YouTube.
  • 00:48:19
    Other churches can. We can't.
  • 00:48:20
I like the music, I don't want to say,
  • 00:48:22
    it's really, really good,
  • 00:48:24
maybe great, but we're not having a real impact
  • 00:48:26
in terms of our music and our messages
  • 00:48:29
in ways that we are in four other areas,
  • 00:48:32
    four territories, if you will.
  • 00:48:34
    That's sort of our ground,
  • 00:48:36
ground that God has given us,
  • 00:48:38
ground that we can have a unique contribution in.
  • 00:48:41
And we're going to look at
  • 00:48:42
just one of that territory tonight
  • 00:48:44
because it actually relates to our soils.
  • 00:48:46
Let's look at the territory of camps.
  • 00:48:51
    - In the book of Isaiah, God's call
  • 00:48:53
to think bigger and push for more is clear.
  • 00:48:57
Enlarge the place of your tent is an exhortation
  • 00:49:00
to expand the territory God has already given us,
  • 00:49:03
the place where the favor of God
  • 00:49:05
    has collided again and again
  • 00:49:07
with the gifts He's put in all of us
  • 00:49:09
    producing supernatural results.
  • 00:49:13
Over the last 28 years, we have taken
  • 00:49:15
a lot of ground for the Kingdom of God,
  • 00:49:17
    but there are four territories
  • 00:49:18
that God has clearly given us
  • 00:49:20
where we have seen His favor to go farther
  • 00:49:22
than we could ever have dreamed possible,
  • 00:49:24
and where He is now calling us to not hold back,
  • 00:49:27
to say yes to taking a 10X moonshot,
  • 00:49:30
to seeing His Kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven.
  • 00:49:34
    Through inspiring camps, we're seeing
  • 00:49:36
    spiritual, emotional, and relational breakthroughs.
  • 00:49:38
Crossroads camps are only in class,
  • 00:49:41
and we believe God wants us to take things even further.
  • 00:49:44
Our focus is adding new features
  • 00:49:46
and better experience to reach more people,
  • 00:49:48
with plans to add a 20 acre lake,
  • 00:49:50
signature experiences like a music festival
  • 00:49:52
for 18 to 24 year olds,
  • 00:49:54
capacity for tens of thousands of people per event,
  • 00:49:57
and spaces to minister to the core group
  • 00:49:59
    of volunteer leaders within Crossroads
  • 00:50:02
    that fuels this ministry.
  • 00:50:04
With 770 acres of land, we believe Base Camp
  • 00:50:07
could be ground zero for a spiritual awakening.
  • 00:50:22
    - So at 18, I enlisted in the Army.
  • 00:50:25
    About halfway through basic training,
  • 00:50:27
I got what's called a Red Cross message,
  • 00:50:29
    which is a family emergency.
  • 00:50:31
    I immediately called my mom
  • 00:50:33
and she informed me that my uncle was murdered.
  • 00:50:37
    I remember feeling alone.
  • 00:50:39
Basic training is not the the place to show your emotions.
  • 00:50:42
It's not the place to feel those things.
  • 00:50:45
So, I just kind of bottled it down inside.
  • 00:50:48
I was very angry, confused, hurt.
  • 00:50:54
I came home after basic training,
  • 00:50:57
    started drinking very heavily.
  • 00:51:00
I knew something was was happening with PTSD
  • 00:51:03
    when I started experiencing
  • 00:51:04
    some pretty bad nightmares.
  • 00:51:06
Rock bottom was I didn't think
  • 00:51:09
there was anything else for me,
  • 00:51:10
so I attempted to take my life.
  • 00:51:14
My roommate found me and said, "Hey,
  • 00:51:17
you're going to go to church with me.
  • 00:51:20
We're going to get you connected
  • 00:51:22
    to some form of community."
  • 00:51:24
It was Crossroads Uptown, went there,
  • 00:51:27
got plugged into an awesome small group,
  • 00:51:30
ended up signing up for College Camp,
  • 00:51:33
    had a great experience there,
  • 00:51:34
but I was still dealing with a lot of things
  • 00:51:37
that I was not at the time willing to bring to light.
  • 00:51:42
    That came up in nightmares.
  • 00:51:43
It came up in the shadow in the corner of the room.
  • 00:51:46
In every single crowd I walked into,
  • 00:51:49
    there'd be a threat.
  • 00:51:50
I took the PTSD screening, 30 being the low end,
  • 00:51:54
80 being the high end, and I scored a 78.
  • 00:51:58
The predominant thing that it stemmed from
  • 00:52:00
was the death of my uncle.
  • 00:52:02
But I really felt like God was going to meet me
  • 00:52:06
at Man Camp, camping around a fire,
  • 00:52:09
talking about what's actually going on in our lives.
  • 00:52:11
That was like the first time that
  • 00:52:13
I had really opened up to someone
  • 00:52:15
other than my therapist about what was going on.
  • 00:52:19
I felt seen, I felt heard, so I decided
  • 00:52:23
to go to the prayer tent because
  • 00:52:25
I was just going to model it for my group.
  • 00:52:28
I had no expectations for myself
  • 00:52:29
    and I spilled my guts.
  • 00:52:31
I told him everything about my PTSD diagnosis,
  • 00:52:35
the suicide attempt. I told him everything.
  • 00:52:37
But then he asked to pray for me.
  • 00:52:41
I tried to do this without crying.
  • 00:52:43
He asked to put his hands on my head,
  • 00:52:45
and he started praying this prayer to heal
  • 00:52:49
the neurons and the neurological pathways
  • 00:52:52
in my brain that were hyperactive
  • 00:52:55
    because of the PTSD.
  • 00:52:56
He said, "Lord, just allow Brandon's brain
  • 00:53:01
to work the way that You intended it to work,
  • 00:53:04
to go back to its original purpose."
  • 00:53:06
And I remember looking up while he was praying
  • 00:53:10
    and his hands weren't there.
  • 00:53:12
I asked him, "When did you take your hands away?"
  • 00:53:16
He said, "Soon after I started."
  • 00:53:18
I said, "Well, I still feel hands under my hat,
  • 00:53:22
    moving through my hair.
  • 00:53:23
I still feel these warm, comforting hands on my head."
  • 00:53:28
And I just looked up and I felt the breeze
  • 00:53:31
for the first time, it felt like in forever.
  • 00:53:35
I just felt lighter, I felt comfort, I felt loved.
  • 00:53:42
And then he asked me if there was anybody
  • 00:53:44
    I wanted to forgive.
  • 00:53:48
And I said, "I think I need to forgive
  • 00:53:51
the man that murdered my uncle."
  • 00:53:55
And I did, and I didn't realize how much hate
  • 00:54:01
I had been holding in my heart for a man I'd never met.
  • 00:54:05
    And I just felt light.
  • 00:54:09
Well, a week later, after Man Camp,
  • 00:54:11
I went to my therapist and, "I would like
  • 00:54:14
to take the PTSD screening again."
  • 00:54:16
I took the test and I no longer qualified.
  • 00:54:20
I think the score was ten.
  • 00:54:24
It felt incredible to feel God's presence
  • 00:54:29
and just know that He is,
  • 00:54:31
one, been with me the whole time,
  • 00:54:33
and He wanted to heal me.
  • 00:54:36
I just had to ask for it.
  • 00:54:39
It makes me feel grateful that a lot of people
  • 00:54:41
have gone before me to give their time,
  • 00:54:44
money, energy into the camps so that
  • 00:54:49
I could come to a place to experience
  • 00:54:52
a miracle, experience a new life.
  • 00:54:57
I see hope for a future.
  • 00:54:59
My tithe and my finances, I want to keep
  • 00:55:02
    pouring those things into camps
  • 00:55:04
    so that somebody like me
  • 00:55:06
    can experience what I experienced.
  • 00:55:10
    - Man. Oh, my gosh, that's so good. Wow. Wow.
  • 00:55:16
    There's something magical that happens
  • 00:55:18
when you get on our land and get out of buildings.
  • 00:55:20
At our camps, we don't have any Crossroads logos.
  • 00:55:23
    It's not Crossroads branded.
  • 00:55:25
We just want to touch people
  • 00:55:26
and not put anything else in their way.
  • 00:55:29
And there are some crazy healings
  • 00:55:31
    that have been happening.
  • 00:55:32
Now, healings are known as miracles
  • 00:55:34
because they don't happen a lot.
  • 00:55:35
Don't think that if you do the right hocus pocus prayer,
  • 00:55:38
then you're going to have one.
  • 00:55:39
Don't get bitter if you don't have one
  • 00:55:42
    because they're called miracles,
  • 00:55:43
because they don't happen that often.
  • 00:55:44
But I'll tell you what, some of us in here,
  • 00:55:46
we listen to that story and we go like,
  • 00:55:48
"Oh, come on. Really? Really? I don't know.
  • 00:55:52
I think he just probably had a good day
  • 00:55:55
    when he retook the test.
  • 00:55:57
I think it's just his emotions. Really?
  • 00:55:59
Let me tell you something. Let me tell you something.
  • 00:56:01
    If that's your thinking,
  • 00:56:02
that's exactly why you don't pray.
  • 00:56:05
That's exactly why you don't have answers to your prayers.
  • 00:56:09
    Because you don't believe.
  • 00:56:12
    You have a hard heart.
  • 00:56:13
You got just soft enough of a heart
  • 00:56:16
to actually call yourself a Christian, barely.
  • 00:56:20
But when's the last thing you asked God for?
  • 00:56:23
You probably don't ask Him for anything
  • 00:56:25
because you're cynical He would do anything.
  • 00:56:27
Billy Graham said, "Heaven is full of answers
  • 00:56:31
to prayers to which no one bothered to ask."
  • 00:56:36
The first night at the Revival,
  • 00:56:38
I had everybody take 30 seconds to just ask God something.
  • 00:56:41
It was a simultaneous thing went on.
  • 00:56:43
A mother told us that her 15 year old son,
  • 00:56:46
for the first time, asked God for something
  • 00:56:48
he hasn't been able to smell or taste for,
  • 00:56:50
I think it was four years since he had COVID.
  • 00:56:53
And he just asked in that tent and boom,
  • 00:56:56
nostrils open up. He could smell everything in the tent.
  • 00:56:58
    It was amazing.
  • 00:56:59
At any point you can applaud for this
  • 00:57:01
    because this stuff is real.
  • 00:57:03
    This stuff is real. [applause]
  • 00:57:06
We need to see that being the police
  • 00:57:09
that find something wrong with things
  • 00:57:11
is not a spiritual gift. It's a curse.
  • 00:57:15
It comes from the evil one. That's what he does.
  • 00:57:18
He finds things that are wrong with you
  • 00:57:20
and makes sure he points it out.
  • 00:57:22
He finds things that are wrong in the world,
  • 00:57:24
and he taints it and he hurts it.
  • 00:57:26
And so when we are always looking
  • 00:57:27
to find something wrong, to find
  • 00:57:29
the hidden meaning and be --
  • 00:57:30
Friends, we're not -- You're not helping yourself.
  • 00:57:32
You're not. We're just hardening our hearts.
  • 00:57:36
    That's cynicism.
  • 00:57:39
By the way, this is one of the cooler stories
  • 00:57:42
because we had people from all different places,
  • 00:57:44
not just part of Crossroads that came to the Revival.
  • 00:57:47
We had about, we're guessing about 8500 people
  • 00:57:49
over the course of two days come.
  • 00:57:51
And one, we came in on -- [applause]
  • 00:57:53
    That's very cool.
  • 00:57:54
We had, -- we saw -- the cynical me
  • 00:57:59
and many of us around here thought,
  • 00:58:01
"You know, we're going to have a Friday night thing,
  • 00:58:03
a Saturday night thing, weekend service
  • 00:58:04
is going to be really limping and lame.
  • 00:58:06
It's the beginning of The Push. That's a bummer."
  • 00:58:08
And we said, "Well, whatever, we're just going
  • 00:58:10
to serve God any way we can."
  • 00:58:11
    Oh, stupid us.
  • 00:58:13
We had a growth spurt last weekend
  • 00:58:15
after people were out Friday night, Saturday night,
  • 00:58:17
we had a 15% growth spurt on Sunday.
  • 00:58:20
People didn't just stay away, they said,
  • 00:58:22
"No, I want -- I want more of God."
  • 00:58:24
Last weekend, this 70 year old Pentecostal pastor
  • 00:58:28
came to one of our sites and he went to
  • 00:58:30
the Welcome Center and he asked for forgiveness.
  • 00:58:32
He said, "I'm a 70 year old Pentecostal pastor,
  • 00:58:35
and I need to confess, I need to repent,
  • 00:58:37
that I've had a bad attitude towards this church.
  • 00:58:40
    I've never been here.
  • 00:58:41
I just assumed it was big
  • 00:58:43
and just was not giving truth.
  • 00:58:45
And what I experienced at The Revival blew me away.
  • 00:58:47
And I just came here to say, I'm sorry.
  • 00:58:49
I need to repent to somebody."
  • 00:58:52
And he said, and then he said, "Would it be okay
  • 00:58:55
if I just sat in the back rows for a few weeks
  • 00:58:58
just to kind of sit here?"
  • 00:59:00
And of course, of course, that's a tender hearted man.
  • 00:59:03
    You can change soil. Okay?
  • 00:59:06
That's not the point of the parable.
  • 00:59:07
The point of the parable is God.
  • 00:59:08
The point of the parable is God,
  • 00:59:10
no matter what your soil is,
  • 00:59:12
the point is God keeps giving you more.
  • 00:59:15
God keeps giving you another shot.
  • 00:59:18
But at the same time, we have a responsibility
  • 00:59:21
    to cultivate our heart.
  • 00:59:23
The next one Jesus talks about is the rocky soil.
  • 00:59:26
Let's get the opinion from Him.
  • 00:59:28
What does the rocky soil mean?
  • 00:59:29
He says this: As for what was sown on rocky ground,
  • 00:59:32
this is the one who hears the Word
  • 00:59:34
and immediately receives it with joy,
  • 00:59:35
yet he has no root in himself,
  • 00:59:37
    but endures for a while.
  • 00:59:39
And when tribulation or persecution arises
  • 00:59:41
on account of the Word, immediately he falls away.
  • 00:59:48
So you put some seed in here
  • 00:59:50
and you're going to get some growth.
  • 00:59:51
But because there's no root structure,
  • 00:59:54
as soon as the sun comes,
  • 00:59:55
it withers up and it dies.
  • 00:59:58
So this appears to be a person of faith,
  • 01:00:01
but as soon as difficulty comes, it dies away.
  • 01:00:05
You could liken this to fragility,
  • 01:00:08
to someone who has a very fragile faith.
  • 01:00:13
It could be, uh, it could be, uh,
  • 01:00:15
"I had a health issue, or my loved one
  • 01:00:17
had a health issue and God didn't heal me,
  • 01:00:20
    so forget God."
  • 01:00:23
    Really it's a fragile situation.
  • 01:00:25
All the greats in the Bible
  • 01:00:26
had horrible things happen to them,
  • 01:00:27
    that's why they're the greats.
  • 01:00:29
    Horrible things happen to them.
  • 01:00:30
Many of them didn't get resolved,
  • 01:00:31
but they persevered because they had roots.
  • 01:00:34
When we get -- when we get upset
  • 01:00:35
because something's in our way, we're just --
  • 01:00:37
We're just tipping, we're telling everybody,
  • 01:00:39
"Hey, I'm rocky soil. I have no roots.
  • 01:00:41
I have no depth to my faith because
  • 01:00:43
    I can't handle it."
  • 01:00:44
    Or reject the Word.
  • 01:00:46
Like the number of people who have left Crossroads
  • 01:00:49
because we actually say something in the Bible
  • 01:00:51
and someone doesn't like it and they don't want to be here.
  • 01:00:54
That's what he says, the Word.
  • 01:00:55
    I love people.
  • 01:00:57
I love people who aren't heterosexual.
  • 01:01:00
We have people in our church
  • 01:01:01
who aren't heterosexual and we're for all people.
  • 01:01:05
And God has a design that He's very clear on
  • 01:01:10
    with sexuality, very clear on.
  • 01:01:12
And the people I've met who just had
  • 01:01:15
their faith shipwrecked over that is crazy to me.
  • 01:01:18
In other words, you wanted to be in step
  • 01:01:20
with what everyone else believes in culture.
  • 01:01:22
You don't want to be in step with God.
  • 01:01:23
And Jesus talks about this, that we've got
  • 01:01:26
to have roots to where we get persecuted.
  • 01:01:28
And if we get persecuted, we stand because we have roots.
  • 01:01:32
Man, I've known some amazingly charismatic
  • 01:01:36
    Christians who fall away.
  • 01:01:37
And by charismatic, I'm talking about
  • 01:01:38
big personality. I'm talking about winning smile.
  • 01:01:41
But, man, as soon as hard times come, gone. Gone.
  • 01:01:44
Man, I've known people who've been Bible scholars
  • 01:01:47
and could beat me in Bible trivia.
  • 01:01:49
But something comes up, scorching wind
  • 01:01:51
    they can't have, Boom. Gone.
  • 01:01:53
Because they look good. They've got the Word.
  • 01:01:57
There's no roots. There's no depth.
  • 01:02:00
Mile wide on knowledge, on personality,
  • 01:02:02
on smiles and stories, but an inch deep
  • 01:02:06
in terms of root structure. Not good.
  • 01:02:10
The third soil that that Jesus talks about
  • 01:02:14
    is the thorny soil.
  • 01:02:16
Let's read what the thorny soil is.
  • 01:02:22
As for that which was sown among thorns,
  • 01:02:25
this is the one who hears the Word,
  • 01:02:27
but the cares of the world
  • 01:02:29
and the deceitfulness of riches choke the Word,
  • 01:02:32
    and it proves unfruitful.
  • 01:02:38
The thorny soil, there's a lot going on here, isn't it?
  • 01:02:42
    Like, this one's pretty barren.
  • 01:02:43
    This one's got nothing.
  • 01:02:45
There's a lot going on here because
  • 01:02:47
there's a lot of distractions, a lot of things
  • 01:02:50
that are popping up all over the place.
  • 01:02:52
And what happens with this is when
  • 01:02:55
something starts to seed, something starts to pop up,
  • 01:02:58
it gets choked out because there's too much going on.
  • 01:03:00
This actually, in many ways, is a picture of America.
  • 01:03:03
    Everyone has a different agenda
  • 01:03:04
for what America is supposed to be.
  • 01:03:05
    Everyone's going a different direction
  • 01:03:07
and we're all choking out one another.
  • 01:03:09
We've never been more polarized than this,
  • 01:03:11
    and it affects our faith.
  • 01:03:13
It affects our relationship with God.
  • 01:03:16
One of the great things about the Space program
  • 01:03:18
was even though there was some dissenters
  • 01:03:21
who said, "Hey, we're spending a lot of money.
  • 01:03:23
It's a good conversation to have.
  • 01:03:25
We're spending a lot of money.
  • 01:03:26
There's probably some things we can do here
  • 01:03:28
in our own country, rather than
  • 01:03:30
try to get some rocks in the moon."
  • 01:03:32
It was a really good voice.
  • 01:03:33
It's a really good debate to have.
  • 01:03:35
You can be a voice that wants to have
  • 01:03:38
some discussion and not be a bad person,
  • 01:03:40
not be a cynic. No, no problem with that at all.
  • 01:03:43
But the great thing is you look back
  • 01:03:44
in that history, which, by the way,
  • 01:03:46
I was there, I was there, I'm old enough to be there.
  • 01:03:49
    I had it in preschool.
  • 01:03:51
    We all came into preschool,
  • 01:03:53
Mrs. Waugaman, we all came in.
  • 01:03:55
She's the person who taught me to read.
  • 01:03:56
I can remember clear as day, sitting on her lap
  • 01:03:59
    and seeing "see Spot run,"
  • 01:04:00
like the words were coming off the page.
  • 01:04:02
It was blowing me away, right?
  • 01:04:04
So we're there and and they roll,
  • 01:04:08
roll out this little 19 inch black and white TV
  • 01:04:11
about the size of Kyle Ranson.
  • 01:04:13
They roll it out to him.
  • 01:04:17
Yeah, I heard Kyle cracking on my age.
  • 01:04:19
Yes, yes, I am older than you
  • 01:04:22
and I actually was there when we walked on the moon.
  • 01:04:24
I remember all of us in the class.
  • 01:04:26
We all came around and stared at this grainy TV.
  • 01:04:29
This, by the way, was before the days of cable.
  • 01:04:31
You had these long things called rabbit ears.
  • 01:04:34
You would take it and you would extend it up.
  • 01:04:37
And then you'd have people go like this on them,
  • 01:04:39
and they put tin foil on them,
  • 01:04:40
and someone's always coming and hitting the TV.
  • 01:04:42
That was back when America was America.
  • 01:04:44
    It was crazy back then.
  • 01:04:45
It was the wild, wild West.
  • 01:04:49
And we all sat there in awe
  • 01:04:50
as we could barely tell what was happening
  • 01:04:52
    on the screen.
  • 01:04:54
But all of America did that.
  • 01:04:56
JFK's vision of going to the moon
  • 01:04:59
    brought us together.
  • 01:05:01
We were focused on one thing.
  • 01:05:03
We were unified on one thing,
  • 01:05:06
Kind of what happened if you're old enough
  • 01:05:08
to remember Desert Storm, the first good thing
  • 01:05:11
    our military did after Vietnam.
  • 01:05:13
It focused our country. We brought --
  • 01:05:15
    We came together.
  • 01:05:16
We were a bit less fragmented or a moment.
  • 01:05:19
    With 9/11, it focused us.
  • 01:05:22
This thorny, all these thorns, it just distracts.
  • 01:05:30
There are so many distractions today.
  • 01:05:32
I know, just people talk about this all the time.
  • 01:05:34
This is not, nothing here is new for you.
  • 01:05:37
It's just highlighting how Jesus's truth
  • 01:05:40
is still true, it's just different tools.
  • 01:05:43
Our social media feeds, I mean, shoot, man,
  • 01:05:46
    I don't -- I refuse to look at
  • 01:05:48
how much screen time I have every week on my iPhone.
  • 01:05:50
Nope, not going to look at it. Nope.
  • 01:05:52
Not gonna do it. Not gonna do it.
  • 01:05:54
    Too depressing.
  • 01:05:56
The amount of things on our news feed,
  • 01:05:58
our social media, the jibber jabber
  • 01:06:01
that we have on things, the paranoia
  • 01:06:03
and fixation we have on politics
  • 01:06:05
that we can't change it at all.
  • 01:06:06
You know who you're going to vote for,
  • 01:06:08
    so does the next person.
  • 01:06:09
Yeah, we're fixated on it. Stop. Relax.
  • 01:06:11
If we read the Bible a little more
  • 01:06:13
and watched our news feed a little bit less,
  • 01:06:15
you might have some more cool stuff
  • 01:06:16
    popping out of your life.
  • 01:06:19
Distraction, getting into the cares of the world.
  • 01:06:25
    We see it everywhere.
  • 01:06:27
So last week, heading into the Revival,
  • 01:06:28
I was really on a high.
  • 01:06:31
I was getting in the zone.
  • 01:06:33
I was a bit more bold than normal.
  • 01:06:35
I fasted a couple days last week just to get clear.
  • 01:06:39
And in the middle of that fast I went to work out,
  • 01:06:41
which is always difficult to go work out
  • 01:06:43
when you have nothing in your stomach.
  • 01:06:44
But I said, why not? Let's just do it.
  • 01:06:46
Just two days. Jesus went 40. I can do two.
  • 01:06:48
    So I went in there.
  • 01:06:49
I went in and as I was, I was working out
  • 01:06:52
a guy I know came up.
  • 01:06:54
He used to be a professional athlete.
  • 01:06:56
Comes up and he said hey.
  • 01:06:57
He's sweating, I'm sweating. How are you doing?
  • 01:06:59
And I just had a level of boldness in me
  • 01:07:01
that I don't normally have because
  • 01:07:02
I was almost on a spiritual high.
  • 01:07:04
And I said, "Hey, man, I haven't seen you
  • 01:07:06
at church for a while. Where have you been?"
  • 01:07:09
And he goes, "Oh, well, I go to different churches.
  • 01:07:12
I go." He's started naming all these churches.
  • 01:07:14
Little did he know, I know all of them
  • 01:07:15
    and know their pastors.
  • 01:07:16
    Oh, so-and-so, you see so-and-so.
  • 01:07:19
And as he was talking, I just said,
  • 01:07:21
let's keep pushing. I'm into pushing these days.
  • 01:07:23
I said, "Are you as committed to your faith
  • 01:07:30
as you were to your football training?
  • 01:07:33
Do you put as much energy into growing your faith
  • 01:07:37
    as you put into football?"
  • 01:07:39
    He said, "Definitely not."
  • 01:07:42
    I said, "That's a problem. It's a problem."
  • 01:07:44
I didn't say this, but I'm saying now,
  • 01:07:46
    football comes and goes.
  • 01:07:47
Any anything you put time in is going to come and go.
  • 01:07:50
Your career is going to go.
  • 01:07:52
    It's going to go away.
  • 01:07:53
Your spouse, they may die before you. They go away.
  • 01:07:56
    Anything you put time into,
  • 01:07:57
anything you put energy is valuable
  • 01:07:59
and as good as it is, it's going to go away.
  • 01:08:00
The one thing it's not going to go away
  • 01:08:02
    is your relationship with God.
  • 01:08:03
And yet we use it, look at it so lackadaisically,
  • 01:08:08
like, "Okay, if I got nothing else going on,
  • 01:08:10
    I'll go there."
  • 01:08:11
One of the coolest stories I got from the --
  • 01:08:14
There's so many of them because they keep
  • 01:08:16
coming in and flooding in from the Revival
  • 01:08:17
is a young family said it was my son's first time
  • 01:08:20
to have an indoor lacrosse game.
  • 01:08:22
And they said, "No, you're not going
  • 01:08:24
    to go play indoor lacrosse.
  • 01:08:26
We're not going to have sports rule this family.
  • 01:08:28
We're going to The Revival as a family."
  • 01:08:30
And God showed up and brought their family together.
  • 01:08:33
And then the kid's like, "Dad,
  • 01:08:35
I don't want to go to practice tomorrow.
  • 01:08:36
Can I -- can I come back here on Saturday?"
  • 01:08:39
When's the when's the last time you chose God
  • 01:08:42
over anything else that you always choose?
  • 01:08:45
What's the last time you said, "No,
  • 01:08:48
    that's a distraction. That's a distraction.
  • 01:08:50
    God's my priority"?
  • 01:08:51
Can you identify a time when you chose God
  • 01:08:54
over something else that was a good option?
  • 01:08:57
If you have a hard time doing that,
  • 01:08:58
this might be your Achilles heel. This.
  • 01:09:03
See, it's not -- It's not what we say.
  • 01:09:07
    It's not what we intend.
  • 01:09:09
It's not what we believe. It's what we do.
  • 01:09:14
    It's what we do.
  • 01:09:15
This is part of the story of a couple of women
  • 01:09:19
whose hearts I find really impressive.
  • 01:09:31
    - We were both incarcerated
  • 01:09:33
    together at Dayton Correctional.
  • 01:09:36
We became each other's support system.
  • 01:09:40
We used to go to Crossroads Church
  • 01:09:43
    inside of the prison,
  • 01:09:46
    and I remember watching Brian,
  • 01:09:48
    the one on sermon where
  • 01:09:51
    they're training the horse.
  • 01:09:53
I'm like, "Man, this is the coolest church ever."
  • 01:09:56
Somebody that I work with was like,
  • 01:09:58
"Oh, well, I go to Crossroads."
  • 01:09:59
I say, "Yeah, I'll go with you."
  • 01:10:02
So then I dragged Music along with me.
  • 01:10:04
    - It started out one Thursday.
  • 01:10:06
    I go one Thursday
  • 01:10:07
and it ended up every Thursday.
  • 01:10:09
We've been going for a couple of months now.
  • 01:10:12
    - Four-seven has a plan to try to put Crossroads
  • 01:10:14
in every single prison across America.
  • 01:10:17
Do you think that that's worthwhile?
  • 01:10:18
    - Yes. - Yes.
  • 01:10:20
The way that the word is brought about,
  • 01:10:22
    it's more relatable.
  • 01:10:24
It's like I'm just talking to you
  • 01:10:25
or I'm just talking to you. - Yeah.
  • 01:10:27
But you're getting filled up with God.
  • 01:10:29
And like, I used to go to
  • 01:10:32
    different denominational churches and stuff,
  • 01:10:34
but they were like, "You can't dye your hair,
  • 01:10:36
    and you can't."
  • 01:10:38
And then here comes Crossroads like,
  • 01:10:40
"We love you just the way you are.
  • 01:10:41
    Like, God doesn't make mistakes.
  • 01:10:43
You're perfect just the way you are."
  • 01:10:44
Yeah, and in DCI though, like,
  • 01:10:48
not a lot of people like the main church in DCI.
  • 01:10:52
    So Crossroads is their church.
  • 01:10:55
And prison people, they always say
  • 01:10:59
    they got you coming home.
  • 01:11:00
They'll give you paperwork after paperwork
  • 01:11:02
    after paperwork saying, "Hey,
  • 01:11:04
this is out there for you," and it's not.
  • 01:11:08
Crossroads Four-Seven is the only program
  • 01:11:14
that has been real, and I've been in
  • 01:11:18
and out of prison my whole life.
  • 01:11:21
God's really showed up for me, like,
  • 01:11:23
I never make right choices in life.
  • 01:11:26
And I feel like He has, like,
  • 01:11:28
paved a path for me to follow.
  • 01:11:30
He literally, like, gave us a loaner car,
  • 01:11:33
let us go to work every day,
  • 01:11:35
put me on the Wheels program.
  • 01:11:37
    It's just amazing.
  • 01:11:39
Like, there's things that God has done for me
  • 01:11:42
    in literally three months
  • 01:11:44
that I could have never done for myself.
  • 01:11:47
    - I remember being in prison and, like,
  • 01:11:50
really diving deep with my relationship with God.
  • 01:11:52
    And one of the scriptures
  • 01:11:53
that I've always held on to is,
  • 01:11:55
I will never leave you nor forsake you.
  • 01:11:58
    He's got me this far.
  • 01:11:59
He's not gonna drop off now.
  • 01:12:08
I did get to experience it.
  • 01:12:12
I cried and cried and cried.
  • 01:12:14
    It was so beautiful.
  • 01:12:15
It was just like we wasn't in prison for a minute.
  • 01:12:19
That's one of the first times that
  • 01:12:21
I really felt, like, genuine love
  • 01:12:26
    from the Christian community.
  • 01:12:28
    It's a life changing experience.
  • 01:12:30
    - Now that we're out here, she's like,
  • 01:12:32
Oh, FYI, they're doing Women's Camp and we're going."
  • 01:12:36
    I said, "Okay."
  • 01:12:39
As soon as we're walking in, I'm like,
  • 01:12:40
this, this isn't -- this isn't for me.
  • 01:12:43
Like, these people are different than me."
  • 01:12:46
But Sarah Lynn's, like, "No, no, no,
  • 01:12:49
we're all the same. We got this."
  • 01:12:51
So she's been a great support.
  • 01:12:54
But yesterday really opened my eyes
  • 01:12:56
to what love and non-judgmental is,
  • 01:13:00
    like, people are very kind.
  • 01:13:02
    - Well, let me ask you this.
  • 01:13:04
So we're going to take Woman Camp back again to DCI.
  • 01:13:06
Would you want to come with us?
  • 01:13:08
    - If they would let us in?
  • 01:13:10
    - They might not let me in.
  • 01:13:12
I've been there too many times.
  • 01:13:15
    - If they let me in, I'm going.
  • 01:13:16
    - I would go for sure.
  • 01:13:18
    - And what message would you take to the women there?
  • 01:13:21
    - There's hope on the outside.
  • 01:13:23
    - Prison does not define who you are.
  • 01:13:26
No matter how many times you've been there,
  • 01:13:28
no matter how much comfortable it is,
  • 01:13:31
    it's not your identity.
  • 01:13:40
    - The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. [cheering]
  • 01:13:55
    - My -- Oh, my gosh.
  • 01:14:00
Music said something that was very damning
  • 01:14:03
to those of us who are Christians.
  • 01:14:06
She said people come in and they say it all the time,
  • 01:14:09
"We're going to be there for you."
  • 01:14:10
We hand out the brochures, she said.
  • 01:14:12
    "But they never are."
  • 01:14:13
And fortunately, she found out that
  • 01:14:15
one little corner of the Kingdom is,
  • 01:14:17
and that's this place called Crossroads,
  • 01:14:18
    just using her words.
  • 01:14:20
And you know, the good soil here, the good soil,
  • 01:14:23
the good soil isn't about having the right ideas,
  • 01:14:27
having the right -- the right beliefs,
  • 01:14:29
    having the right intentions,
  • 01:14:31
    having the right emotions.
  • 01:14:33
I mean, we have rooms full of people
  • 01:14:35
who have good beliefs, good emotions, look good,
  • 01:14:37
all that stuff, doesn't mean you have good soil.
  • 01:14:39
It's not about what you think, what you do,
  • 01:14:41
what you feel, what you believe,
  • 01:14:43
    though those things are good
  • 01:14:44
inasmuch as they lead us to do something.
  • 01:14:48
That's what Jesus is saying to do something.
  • 01:14:51
    More stuff popping up.
  • 01:14:52
There's nothing coming out of this,
  • 01:14:53
but the good soil stuff can start popping up.
  • 01:14:56
And it's crazy that the cynics,
  • 01:14:58
when they look at something that's growing
  • 01:15:00
and it's big, like our community
  • 01:15:01
    they think something is wrong.
  • 01:15:03
No, something is wrong if you're not growing
  • 01:15:05
    according to Jesus.
  • 01:15:07
    We're calling this 10X.
  • 01:15:09
    I quite frankly feel like
  • 01:15:10
I have to tell God I'm sorry,
  • 01:15:12
because He doesn't even give 10X as a possibility.
  • 01:15:14
    He says 30, 60, 100X, 30, 60 and 100X.
  • 01:15:20
How big is your God? How many?
  • 01:15:21
How many Musics do you think God can get ahold of?
  • 01:15:24
How much do you think God can use your in your life?
  • 01:15:28
    Are you in that?
  • 01:15:29
Can you identify the last person
  • 01:15:30
    you shared your faith with?
  • 01:15:32
Can you identify the last person you prayed for?
  • 01:15:35
Can you identify who it is that would look at you
  • 01:15:37
and say, "That person's making my life better?"
  • 01:15:40
    That's what Jesus is saying.
  • 01:15:42
That's the indication of a good heart,
  • 01:15:46
of a heart that opens and receives the Word of God
  • 01:15:48
because they do something instead of
  • 01:15:50
finding what the hidden agenda is,
  • 01:15:52
instead of flaming out as soon as things get tough
  • 01:15:55
or just, "Oh, oh, a squirrel, a little squirrel.
  • 01:15:57
    Look over there."
  • 01:16:01
    I think that's why we're here as a church.
  • 01:16:04
We're here, whatever it is, to just say yes to God.
  • 01:16:08
    Say yes. Yes, yes, yes.
  • 01:16:11
And a lot of things we've said yes
  • 01:16:12
    and we've done, they failed.
  • 01:16:14
But it's because on the front end we said yes, yes, yes.
  • 01:16:19
That's what a follower of Jesus does.
  • 01:16:21
That's what someone who wants to come to Christ says.
  • 01:16:24
You say, yes. Jesus, yes, I want Your grace.
  • 01:16:26
    Yes, I want that forgiveness."
  • 01:16:28
    If Music can get forgiven,
  • 01:16:30
she's done worse things than me.
  • 01:16:31
    Yes, I want forgiven too.
  • 01:16:33
If she can smile, I should be able to smile.
  • 01:16:36
Jesus, come do something in me.
  • 01:16:40
Saying yes, that is the key discipline
  • 01:16:43
    to good soil and moving.
  • 01:16:45
When you leave today, if you want to say yes
  • 01:16:50
and you want a little memento
  • 01:16:51
just for the rest of our Journey
  • 01:16:52
to put it wherever you want to see it,
  • 01:16:54
we're going to give you this patch.
  • 01:16:55
And this is not your time to get a freebie.
  • 01:16:58
This is -- if you're saying
  • 01:17:00
I, A, I'm either going to say yes,
  • 01:17:02
or I need to, I'm not sure I can,
  • 01:17:05
but I want to put it near a place where I see it."
  • 01:17:08
And I'm asked the question all the time
  • 01:17:09
because all of us want to be that good soil, right?
  • 01:17:12
    All of us does.
  • 01:17:14
And God has plans for you.
  • 01:17:16
    It doesn't matter.
  • 01:17:18
Doesn't matter where you are with these other ones.
  • 01:17:21
    God still will give.
  • 01:17:23
He will still give you opportunities.
  • 01:17:25
    He'll still give you chances.
  • 01:17:30
But we got to want it.
  • 01:17:31
We've got to be willing to step out from the crowd.
  • 01:17:34
That's what Jesus is saying to us.
  • 01:17:36
And that's what we're doing as a church
  • 01:17:37
these next five weeks. We're stepping out, friends.
  • 01:17:40
We're not. We're not doing same old, same old.
  • 01:17:42
    We're going, we're going further.
  • 01:17:44
    We're going different places. [cheers]
  • 01:17:47
And, and we need you. We need you.
  • 01:17:52
Because the truth of the matter is,
  • 01:17:54
all the Musics that are out there,
  • 01:17:55
all of us get to participate, all of us.
  • 01:17:58
All of us get that win because
  • 01:17:59
we all contributed here in some way, shape or form.
  • 01:18:02
All of us get the wins because it's a team.
  • 01:18:05
It's the Kingdom of God, and that's who we are,
  • 01:18:07
and that's what we're part of. Let's go, let's go.
  • 01:18:09
God, I thank You for --
  • 01:18:10
Thank You for Your patience and thank You for Your grace.
  • 01:18:14
Thanks for the seed You've thrown.
  • 01:18:15
Keep it coming, God, we need it.
  • 01:18:16
And we're thankful for it. Keep it coming.
  • 01:18:19
And we look forward to seeing what You're going to say to us
  • 01:18:23
and what we're going to do.
  • 01:18:25
Many of us right now, we choose, we say,
  • 01:18:27
I don't know what it is, God, just ahead of time,
  • 01:18:29
I say yes, yes, I say yes."
  • 01:18:32
Help us remember what we need to remember.
  • 01:18:34
And I pray these things in the name of Jesus. Amen.
  • 01:18:42
    - Today we were challenged to say yes.
  • 01:18:45
You got your patch, Andy? - Got it.
  • 01:18:46
    - You got one ironed on,
  • 01:18:47
it's ironed on your jacket already.
  • 01:18:49
And we believe in patches so much because
  • 01:18:53
we call these mark the moments.
  • 01:18:55
These are critical kind of to when you're
  • 01:18:57
past the moment you made the decision to say yes
  • 01:18:59
and you're going, "Hey, did I really say yes?"
  • 01:19:02
And it's something to just mark that you actually did.
  • 01:19:05
So, I hope you were challenged and encouraged today
  • 01:19:08
to say yes and to begin this Journey
  • 01:19:11
    or continue of The Push.
  • 01:19:13
    - Yeah. And if you are part of
  • 01:19:15
our Anywhere Community and requested a guide,
  • 01:19:17
you should have already gotten a patch in an envelope.
  • 01:19:19
    You can get that.
  • 01:19:20
But if you didn't get one,
  • 01:19:22
if you're using the PDF that's available on the website
  • 01:19:24
and you didn't get one of these patches,
  • 01:19:26
hey, we want you to have one.
  • 01:19:27
    Just email anywhere@crossroads.net
  • 01:19:29
and we will get one in the mail
  • 01:19:31
sent to you free of charge.
  • 01:19:32
Because like Joel said, this is a reminder.
  • 01:19:35
This is a reminder about who we want to be.
  • 01:19:37
    A patch isn't just a -- it's not decoration.
  • 01:19:40
It's a statement about who you are
  • 01:19:41
and what your mission is, what your objective is.
  • 01:19:44
We want to be the kind of team that says
  • 01:19:46
yes to anything God has put in front of us,
  • 01:19:49
and anything God is calling us to.
  • 01:19:51
So any way we can help you do that,
  • 01:19:53
    we'd love to help
  • 01:19:55
push you, to help nudge you towards growth
  • 01:19:57
    and towards personal revival.
  • 01:20:00
This isn't just about taking hills as a community.
  • 01:20:02
This is about God doing something in us personally
  • 01:20:06
that spills over into our families,
  • 01:20:08
into our neighborhood, and then all over the globe.
  • 01:20:11
That is what revival is all about.
  • 01:20:13
That's what we're asking God to push us toward.
  • 01:20:15
    So, man, get your patch.
  • 01:20:18
Do the work in your guide.
  • 01:20:19
    Keep watching the weekend.
  • 01:20:20
Get in a group if you don't have one,
  • 01:20:22
and we'll see you next week for week 3 of The Push.
  • 01:20:24
    - Same time, same place.

Process, journal or discuss the themes of this article - here's a few questions to get the ball rolling...

Welcome to the Weekend-Follow Up!

This is the group part of the Bible Challenge, so your questions are based on specific Bible passages from the weekend message. Each week, your group will discover what God might be saying to you, and how you can respond through a group discussion.

  1. Describe a favorite memory of when you gathered with family or friends to watch or witness something. What made it so special?

  2. What stood out to you most from the message?

  3. Do you feel like you’re in a season where you can be reflective or are you just trying to get through each day? Or are you somewhere in between?

  4. How do you feel about the 10x Push? If you or someone you know has seen God move since it started, share with the group.

  5. What soil do you find yourself identifying with the most: hard soil, rocky soil, or thorny soil (cynicism, fragility, or distraction)? Why do you relate with that soil in particular?

  6. Read Matthew 13:23. What fruit would you like to see grow and/or multiply in your life right now?

  7. What is one way you can say “yes” to God this week to move towards becoming good soil, so that God can do more in your life?

  8. Let’s end our time praying together. You can say something like, “God, thank you for speaking your word to us and wanting more for us. Help us work through our struggles so that we become the good soil you want us to be. Increase our faith so that you can do more than we can imagine. Amen.”

__Bonus Questions! __ Check these out if you’re on a roll and want to go a little deeper.

  • Crossroads is wanting to expand in four territories: camps, reachout, digital, and sites (CRDS). Which one of these excites you the most? Have you already experienced or seen someone else experience God’s love through these?
  • Is there an area of your life you’ve asked to see fruit but the growth has been slow? Share with the group.
  • Even when we don’t have the good soil, God still speaks to us and works in our lives. How have you seen God’s goodness in your life during tough times?
