Leaving Behind What You Know

One of the most compelling stories in history is the Exodus. An entire nation, millions of people, went from enslaved and oppressed to freedom. But many of them wanted to go back into the comfort in Egypt. Egypt was safer. Egypt was familiar. What happens when we recognize our own Egypt? What can we do about it and how can we start fresh with a whole new chapter? This weekend we’ll unpack what that can look like for each of us and for our church.

Process, journal or discuss the themes of this article - here's a few questions to get the ball rolling...

More from the Weekend

Prayer

Let’s end our time praying together. You can say something like, “God, thank you for sending Jesus to be the example of leaving Egypt behind. Give us wisdom to figure out what our Egypt is and to trust in You. Help us pick up our cross so we can have a more potent life. In the identity and character of Jesus we pray, amen.”

BONUS QUESTIONS

  1. Sometimes to experience God’s freedom we have to ask for forgiveness. When was the last time you asked for forgiveness? How was your relationship afterwards?
  2. Who is someone you’re investing in? (It could be your children, a mentee, or someone at work.) How could you pray for their future?
